Christmas Stroll and Wishing Tree
We are ready to have a jolly time at the Christmas Stroll on Saturday! We’ll have adoptable dogs looking for forever homes, as well as t-shirts for sale.
Pupology picked up lots of ornaments from our Wishing Tree. If you want to help out our shelter pets in a different way, stop by the Pupology booth at the Christmas Stroll this weekend and snag an ornament. 🎄
Each ornament has a shelter pet’s face on the front and what they want for Christmas on the back. It’s simple: you get the item on the back, bring it to the shelter, and get to keep the ornament to hang on your own tree at home! Thank you, Pupology!

Georgetown Animal Shelter sees uptick in Parvovirus cases
Since Sept. 24, Georgetown Animal Shelter has confirmed 12 cases of Canine Parvovirus in dogs that have been brought in from different parts of the city.
To prevent Canine Parvovirus or “Parvo” animals should be fully vaccinated. Until a puppy has received its complete series of vaccinations, pet owners should not take them to public places where the virus could be living, such as grassy areas, pet shops, parks, puppy classes, dog parks, doggy daycare, kennels, and dog groomers. To protect adult dogs, pet owners should be sure that their dog’s Parvovirus vaccination is updated every 1-3 years. Finally, do not let puppies or adult dogs come into contact with the fecal waste of other dogs. Always promptly dispose of your own dog’s feces.
The Georgetown Animal Shelter will host a low-cost vaccine clinic on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 8:30-11 a.m. Three vaccinations for dogs are available including Rabies for $5, Bordetella for $5, and Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus for $10. Vaccinations also include a free microchip. Only cash payments are accepted.
Parvo is a highly contagious disease that can affect all dogs, but unvaccinated dogs and puppies younger than four months old are the most at risk. The virus affects the gastrointestinal tract and is spread by direct dog-to-dog contact and contact with contaminated feces, environments, or people. The virus can also contaminate kennel surfaces, food and water bowls, collars, leashes, and the hands and clothing of people who handle infected dogs. It is weather resistant and can survive in the environment for long periods of time.
Signs of Parvo include lethargy, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, abdominal bloating, fever or low body temperature, vomiting, and severe, often bloody, diarrhea. Persistent vomiting and diarrhea can cause rapid dehydration and damage to the intestines and immune system, which can cause septic shock. Most deaths from Parvo occur within 48 to 72 hours following the onset of clinical signs. If your dog or puppy shows any of these signs, you should contact your veterinarian immediately.

The Georgetown Animal Shelter will conduct its next low-cost vaccination clinic of the year on Saturday, September 22, 8:30-11 a.m. The walk-in clinic is for cats and dogs. Help protect your pet from diseases they can pick up outside!
Pets may also get a FREE microchip with the purchase of any vaccine. No appointments. Cash or check only. The shelter is located at 110 Walden Dr., Georgetown, next to the McMaster Athletic Fields.
Dog Vaccines:
Rabies $5
DHPP Combo $10 (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parafluenza, Parvo)
Bordetella $5 (Kennel cough)
Cat Vaccines:

K-9 Kerplunk Sept. 8

Join us for a pool paw-ty! Georgetown Parks and Recreation invites dogs and their owners to K-9 Kerplunk – an end of summer swim party just for pups!
Fee: $5 per dog. Humans get in free! Cash or check only.
Each owner is required to complete a liability waiver to enter the event.
K-9 Kerplunk Liability Waiver
Rules for K-9 Kerplunk:
- Must provide proof of current rabies vaccine on the day of the event. Only shot records will be accepted. Dogs without current proof of rabies vaccination will not be allowed into the event.
- Dogs must be leashed when not in the pool.
- Dogs must be accompanied by a person 18 years or older.
- No more than one dog per person.
- Aggressive dogs will not be permitted to participate. Dogs exhibiting aggressive behavior will be asked to leave immediately.
- Owners must clean up after their pets.
- Human friends may enter the pool up to knee deep, at their own discretion.
- Please ensure that your dog has been exposed to swimming. Life jackets are recommended for dogs that are not strong swimmers.
Entry to this event will be through the gate located on the southeast side of the Georgetown Recreation Center near the outdoor pool. No entry will be allowed through the front doors.
Feathers & Fur Adoption Event/Vendor Fair Sept. 29
For The Birds is sponsoring the first annual Feathers and Fur to raise money for the Georgetown Animal Shelter! We’ll be there with adoptable dogs, along with fun animal-related vendors. Please come by and see us all!

Paws in the Park Adoption Special
Georgetown Animal Shelter is welcoming Williamson County’s temporary shelter to San Gabriel Park with its own adoption special – the Paws in the Park adoption special.
All dogs over 30 lbs. may be adopted for $25, which includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, vet voucher, small bag of food, heartworm treatment if applicable, and assorted other goodies.
SpokesDog Rodger Dodger encourages people to visit him and his friends in our play yards and find a dog to adopt. “We welcome the chance to meet new folks and woo them with our puppy dog eyes. And now that there will be many more paws in the park, there should be a dog for everyone,” Rodger said.
The Paws in the Park adoption special will run through June 30.
The Georgetown Animal Shelter is located at 110 Walden Dr., across the street from San Gabriel Park and the McMaster Fields, where it has served the community for many decades.
As of June 6, the county’s temporary shelter is located at 425 E. Morrow in the old Williamson County Show Barn, where visitors will be able to adopt, surrender, or turn in dogs from their jurisdiction (Round Rock, Cedar Park, Hutto, Leander and Williamson County).
