Steve Guthier

Wsteve and 3 pupshen the dogs see Steve coming, they wag their tails and bark a greeting!  Steve has volunteered for the shelter for about three years and is a regular for “play and potty patrol,” coming twice a week to make sure the dogs get some exercise and play time.  He is also the lead volunteer for taking dogs to an Alzheimer’s living facility.

At home, Steve has two senior boxers and two Lonely Hearts cats that he adopted from us, along with a fellow volunteer/daughter and supportive wife.  He fostered a special needs boxer for us and always attends our events. With his smiling and positive attitude, Steve is simply a pleasure to be around, whether you are a human or a dog.

Sharon Buford

Sharon Buford joined as a volunteer less than a year ago and quickly became a favorite of the shelter dogs and people. She is one of the dog-walking regulars, coming every Thursday and Friday (at a minimum) to give them some exercise, training, and play-time.  If you need a hand with anything else, Sharon is likely to volunteer – adoption events, fundraisers, bathing dogs or whatever else you need! Sharon is also a retired accountant, grandmother, and world-traveler.

Volunteer of the Month: Bonnie Beauchamp

Bonnie has been volunteering at the Georgetown Animal Shelter for about a year. She first came in with a friend to donate items after the death of her beloved dog. That very day, Bonnie fell in love with the cats, and she attended the next Volunteer Training meeting.

Mary Treuter, one of the shelter’s seasoned volunteers and cat lover, took Bonnie under her wing to mentor her in the care and love of cats and kittens. Mary and Bonnie are currently working on a system in which information about the care of specific cats and kittens is communicated from volunteer to volunteer and also to the staff.  Bonnie’s duties include cleaning cat kennels, socializing cats/kittens, cleaning kennels when the shelter is closed for holidays, transferring cats/kittens to and from Petsmart for adoption, and constantly trying to find ways to give the shelter’s animals more exposure to the public for adoption.

Thank you, Bonnie, for all you do.

Barbara Dunn

Our volunteer for the month of July 2012 is Barbara (Barb) Dunn. Barb has worn many hats at the shelter. Between the years of 2005-2008, she was a part-time employee at the shelter, but the majority of the time, Barb served in many more capacities as a volunteer. Transporting cats and kittens to the Petsmart in Lakeline Mall until a Petsmart moved into Wolf Ranch was an important job and must have been extremely time consuming. She has worked in the shelter office as a receptionist, off and on, since 2005. Both cats and dogs have come through her home as fosters over the years. All of the important fundraising events sponsored by the Friends of the Georgetown Animal Shelter have found Barb in attendance. When Friends of the Georgetown Animal Shelter was formed, Barb was right there as a board member and treasurer. She is an amazing volunteer and friend. Thanks Barb for all you do.

Martha Woodley

Martha volunteers at the shelter in many ways.  She socializes cats and works at adoption events and various fund raisers. She also substitutes as a receptionist when needed.

Further, Martha contributes her services by taking cats to and from Petsmart for its adoption program that partners with Georgetown Animal Shelter.

She is a member of Friends of Georgetown Animal Shelter and serves on its Board.  She is a very dedicated member having volunteered over 750 hours last year to help the shelter’s furry residents.  Thank you for all you do, Martha!

Debbie Thompson

Debbie is one of the shelter’s key dog volunteers.  She exercises the dogs on a regular basis, teaches them basic commands to improve their adoptability factor, takes videos of dogs for Petfinder, trains all dog walkers, and writes bios for long-timers.  She is also organizing the upcoming dog walk.  Our dogs are lucky to benefit from her dedication!

Beth Kosar and Holly

Beth Kosar, one of our favorite volunteers works with training Holly, a sweet German Shepherd.  She is helping Holly to learn the essentials of obedience such as waiting, following and doing laundry (just kidding on the laundry).  Holly underwent heartworm treatment and recovered in a foster home for several months, before finding her forever home in January.

Holly had a lot of fun visiting the park and made a lot of new friends there while she took breaks from her studies.
