DOUBLE TROUBLE Adoption Special

It’s a DOUBLE TROUBLE Adoption Event – Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS) and Georgetown Animal Shelter are teaming up, for the first time ever, to present a FREE adoption special for adopters who schedule appointments to adopt their new furry family member in Georgetown!

From now through Sunday, June 20, 2021, both shelters’ sizzling summer specials include FREE adoptions of medium and large adult dogs and adult cats for adopters who make an appointment. The shelters are overflowing with wonderful pets for every kind of home, and between WCRAS and the Georgetown shelter, there’s sure to be a pet that will suit your family’s lifestyle.

“Due to the combination of kitten season, past rainstorms and large intakes from single residences, both shelters are over capacity with adult cats (including barn cats) and medium/large dogs. Our shelters are in desperate need for adopters and fosters in order to save lives. WCRAS and Georgetown Animal Shelter know it takes working together to be a lifesaving community and hope the community will team up with us,” said Misty Valenta, animal services director of WCRAS.

To take advantage of this special adoption celebration, go to wilcopets.org to see a list of all of the adoptable pets at WCRAS and pets.georgetown.org for pets at Georgetown Animal Shelter. Interested adopters may email adoption@wilco.org to schedule an appointment for priority service with one of our adoption matchmakers at WCRAS and animalsvc@georgetown.org to schedule an appointment at Georgetown Animal Shelter.

April 8 Operations Update: Return to Appointment-Based Service

Starting Monday, April 12, the Georgetown Animal Shelter will return to appointment-based operations. The shelter will be closed to walk-in traffic. Staff turnover and an increase in animal intakes have created a need for our staff to better manage workloads while new employees are recruited, hired, and trained. In the interim, appointments will be required to visit the shelter.

  • Stray animals will be accepted by appointment only. To make an appointment, call 512-930-3592 or email animalsvc@georgetown.org.
  • Lost animals will be returned to their owners through appointments. Owners who are missing pets should complete a lost pet report at https://pets.georgetown.org/shelter-operations-during-covid/lost-pets, email a description to animalsvc@georgetown.org, or call 512-930-3592.
  • Surrendered animals will be accepted only on an emergency basis to minimize the number of animals coming into the shelter. Signs on the door and online will direct people to call for appointments.
  • Adoptions will proceed via appointment. Interested adopters can view dogs and cats available for adoption at https://pets.georgetown.org/available-pets/, and submit an online application. After reviewing the application, staff will reach out to schedule appointments.
  • City licenses will be sold at https://pets.georgetown.org/overview/licensing-your-pets/, or over the phone, email, or postal mail.
  • The spay/neuter clinic scheduled for April will be postponed. Those that are already signed up will be contacted directly.
  • Animal Control will conduct business as usual.

Appointments to drop off stray animals, surrender animals, and reclaim animals should be made during normal business hours. The shelter’s normal business hours are 11-6 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 12-4 on Saturday and Sunday. Residents may contact the shelter by calling 512-930-3592 or emailing animalsvc@georgetown.org.

If you’re interested in working at the Shelter, please see our current openings and consider applying at https://georgetown.org/jobs/

April Spay/Neuter Clinic Rescheduled to May

The free spay/neuter clinic for cats scheduled for Saturday, April 24 has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 22.

Staff turnover and an increase in animal intakes have created a need for our staff to better manage workloads while new employees are recruited, hired, and trained.

We will contact the people who are signed up to inform them of the new date.

If you have an unaltered cat and live within the city limits of Georgetown, there is still time to sign for the June clinic. Details here.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Pet Pantry Anniversary

One year ago, the shelter re-purposed its Re-Tail Store into a Pet Food Pantry to help residents needing assistance to feed their furry companions, and you supported us every step of the way:

  • Supporters brought bags of cat and dog food to start us off and continued throughout the year.
  • Sun City Pet Club members brought us multiple loads of pet food, while local businesses Wag Heaven and Pupology also donated food.
  • Our fill-the trailer event last fall resulted in an enormous amount of food being donated.

Since last March, the shelter has received 176 requests for assistance, and most of the requests involved multi-pet households. Just think of all the animals we’ve helped this year!

We continue to get requests and need to replenish the pantry regularly. You can help us continue to assist local cats and dogs! Currently, our most needed items are bags of cat kibble, litter, small critter supplies, and puppy pads. (We have an excess of canned food.) Donations of unopened pet food and other items may be left in the donation bins at the shelter’s entrance, or ordered and shipped to Georgetown Animal Shelter, 110 W.L. Walden Drive, Georgetown, TX 78626.

To request pet food is simple. Go to http://records.georgetown.org/Forms/ReqPetFood.

Thank you so much for being our partners in this project.

New: License Your Pets Online

Licensing your pets has never been easier with the introduction of new online forms: this one which includes a payment option and this one for those who get free licenses. Many citizens have asked for this convenience, and thanks to the City’s IT department, we can now offer it!

❔ For those of you scratching your heads, read about pet licenses here https://pets.georgetown.org/overview/licensing-your-pets.

And remember, don’t let your pets drive without a license!
